Fear of the Future After Job Loss: Coping With Anxiety

Answered 16 September 2026 at 12:09 pm PKT

This page explains how job loss, especially after AI and automation disrupt freelancing, can trigger fear about the future, panic, and loss of confidence. It offers practical ways to manage anxiety, rebuild routine, and plan your next steps as an IT professional in Pakistan.

I am an IT professional. I had a good freelancing business but due to AI and automation I am job less these days. I suffer from fear of future.

Losing work because the market changed can shake anyone, especially when bills and family responsibilities are waiting. Your fear of the future is a normal reaction to uncertainty, not a sign that you are failing. AI has changed freelancing, but it has not made your IT experience useless.

Do one thing today: write down the problems you have solved for clients, the tools you know well, and the industries you understand. Then choose one realistic direction where AI is a tool rather than your replacement—such as maintenance, cybersecurity, data work, implementation, QA, or helping small businesses use automation—and spend 60 focused minutes strengthening that path. Update one portfolio piece or send three targeted messages instead of judging your whole future by today’s job market.

Keep a simple routine: sleep and wake at fixed times, move your body, work in set blocks, and stop reading alarming AI news after a fixed hour. Take the next seven days as a small experiment, not a verdict on your career. If fear is stopping your sleep, eating, or basic work for many days, speaking with a mental-health professional can help you steady your mind while you rebuild your income.
